When I do the annual headshots for a counselling training college, the director holds a session with the students beforehand to share and explain the value of a headshot. They look at other professions and use of a headshots within businesses, websites and social media.
But most importantly they study the counselling directory and look at their peers / competitors profile photos.
This is because many the students are reluctant to have a photo taken and need convincing of the importance of the shoot. Sometimes you need to look at other failures to realise that’s not what you want.
Yes of course you can take a photo on your phone, and some of very good or good enough. However like most things in life and business, with some careful thought, research and planning and some professional help you will get a 100% better outcome.
The biggest headshot crimes:
A wedding photo
A holiday photo
A partner or friend obviously cropped out
An outdoor shot when you work indoors/office base
Straight faced – when you role is a kind, compassionate or customer facing job
Clothing you wouldn’t wear at work
Too dark
Looking like you’re lying down (yes I’ve seen them)
A selfie
All huge NO NO’s
When you book a headshot with me we’ll talk through your requirements, your business and branding, to create your bespoke session.
